About Your Host
I moved to Kerry 32 years ago, having lived previously in the UK, South Africa and Australia. I purchased Westcove Farmhouse some 22 years ago, then a run down two up two down farmhouse and gradually over the years renovated, built and developed a small homebased business with a small arts and craft shop and an extension offering first class guest accommodation.
I have travelled extensively all over the world and really enjoy meeting and welcoming my guests to this lovely part of Ireland. Because I live on site in the adjacent farmhouse, I am always available to help with information and recommendations for eating out, local activities and places to see.
Having been a local food producer for many years, I am also a mine of information on local markets, organic vegetable growers and where to buy the best seafood and meat.
I am passionate about wildlife and nature and trying to do my bit with recycling, composting and reducing my carbon footprint. At Westcove, the variety of bird life is astonishing – just read the review of the birds two guests saw in one week!
Our stay allowed us to immerse ourselves in the stunning scenery and enjoy the abundant wildlife
For those interested in birds – what we have seen around Westcove in no particular order:
Black Headed Gull, Little Egret, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Great Tit, Long Tailed Tit,Robin, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Blackbird, Grey Heron, Cuckoo, Collared Dove, Curlew, Blackcap, Herring Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Chaffinch, Gold Crest,, Greater Black Backed Gull, Pheasant, Snipe, Pied Wagtail, Long Tailed Wagtail, Bullfinch, Green Finch, Magpie, Swallow, Wood Pigeon, Gold Finch, Sand Martin, Sparrow Hawk, Jackdaw, Starling, Carrion Crow, Song Thrush, Rook, Willow Warbler, Common Gull, Oyster Catcher, Common Tern, Ringed Plover, Gannet, Raven, Wheateater, Kestrel, Chiff Chaff, Stonechat, Meadow Pipit, Reed Warbler, Guillemot and wren! My other passion is music – I play piano and piano accordion and often play with my very talented friend Pat Waters in the local pubs – Keatings Bar and The Black Shop.
Occasionally during the Summer we will hold special music afternoons with a buffet lunch in Westcove Garden.
